button view program

Postby YinYin » Sun Jul 18, 2010 10:25 pm

ive written this little program that detects your button inputs and overlays them onto your screen
which i find really usefull myself for recording fights/combos/tutorials

ive kept it as simple as possible:
Image
the arrows light up white when they are pressed,
the buttons in the colors of the official control guide;
you can drag it anywhere and close it by right clicking it
demo

however it is not linked with lf2 in anyway and the buttons are preset and cannot be changed right now
(arrow keys and ctrl/shft/enter for defend/jump/attack)
so it will also act when you are not playing

does anyone find this interesting/usefull/wants to have it for recording awesome combos and show everyone how precise he can hit the buttons?

edit:
heres the first version with said limitations
buttons.zip

does it get recorded into lfr files?

I guess you will allow control change in the future? because switching to a new set of inputs is hard...

no
its a seperate program and thus can work with anything you like
recording it to lfr would require it to be a real object in the game and thats just not practical (or a modified exe)
also im not silva (but as soon as silva is getting along with his lfr research he could output the keystrokes of the lfr recording as it runs in lf2 and thus trigger this program)

Marshall wrote:I guess you will allow control change in the future? because switching to a new set of inputs is hard...

actually i was rather thinking of pointing you towards using a secondary program such as glovepie or autohotkey if you really use a different set :p
but well - maybe i can add a configuration dialog

edit:

did anyone experience any problems with the previous version? like buttons lighting up randomly?

or any problems with the new one?
buttons2.zip
it now uses the lf2 controls - you only have to select the player whos input should be shown (right click it)
you can also start the program with a commandline/shortcut/batch and add a number to have that player selected on startup
eg:
start buttons.exe 4
for player 4

also you can start it multiple times and set each to a different player to record everyone at the same time

could someone test whether this works with controllers aswell?

did not try the previous version because of the controls, but there have been no such issues with the second one. In fact, it works seamlessly and thumbs up for the colour code which I am so used to as well.

I don't have a controller, so can't help you here

Don't get how to do this

Shall I post it in the Chinese forum for you?

Don't get how to do this
it doesnt matter what you use to indirectly start this program - you can always add the desired player number behind the file path as a parameter
if youve created a shortcut to it you just go edit the target in the properties
if you run cmd you just punch in "start #filepath #playernumber"
if youve created a text file with that same line you rename it from .txt to .bat and voila it works like a shortcut

Shall I post it in the Chinese forum for you?
why not

Fantasy Leaf got the following problem:
Image

The D got cut off
Image

And he said the programmes shifts position (the J & D shifted, the white arrow got cut off)
Image

He tested on both XP and Vista

I personally cannot get it to detect pressing four buttons at the same time

EDIT: His two other friends experienced the same issues, so perhaps it's to do with them using a Chinese version of windows

ive overlayed all single images to see what happens to all my objects there
AJ and D (color) are all cut off by one pixel at the bottom
lit up arrow keys are cut off by one pixel at the bottom (only up and down i suppose)
and the big image is cut off by 4 pixels
additionally the further down they get the more the images are shifted upwards :/

ive tried being a bit more strict about size and position in the fix
and also let some room to the bottom where i could so the only images that could still be cut off are A and J
about the shifting i dont know

also ive fixed a smaller issue of the names displaying a "`" instead of a " " (lf2 has to store names without a space because thats the seperator in the control.txt - they use the ` instead)

buttons_fix1.zip

Marshall wrote:I personally cannot get it to detect pressing four buttons at the same time

that has to do with your key settings or keyboard - many keys on a keyboard are not designed to be recognized with multiple others

if thats the case i hate vb even more :p
but it makes sense

Some Key Code input in the lf2 ,this "buttons" program does not detect.

key Code 186-*(Punctuation) is no reply.

i could get all the listed/highlighted keys to work for me ... maybe its a keyboard specific problem?

but i did recognize a gap between the key lf2 displays and the key that has to be pressed
to get lf2s / to work i have to press # on my keyboard
to get [ or ] to work i have to press ß or ´
for \ i press ^
and so on

Image

but i dont think that could be a problem because even tho lf2 dislpays the wrong keys they still get recognized correctly

so i hope you simply changed the keys and didnt refresh the button program

Everyone has to use the keyboard may be different, especially the key at a location ...
In fact, as long as the program can detect all of the keys to use this program is no problem.
